I could not believe it when I found on Ebay a mini-bike just like the one I found under my Christmas tree in 1974. It was a very rare 60cc Rockford Tora and it was in great condition. I had to have it at any cost. New in 1974, the bike cost $249. Without giving much thought about how to get it the 1200 miles to my home, I got the winning bid, bargain priced at $550.
Now that I owned it, it hit me that I had no idea how to get it shipped to my house. I called friends and got all kinds of advice, but none that I really felt comfortable with. One friend suggested his favorite service but that meant the seller had to take it to the drop off site and I would have to go to a site to get it. Then while surfing the web looking for another option, I came across the uship site. I never knew the service existed until I needed it. I filled out the ship request, posted a picture of the minibike and waited for the shippers to contact me. In the first day, I had 4 bids from shippers. The greatest thing is that these were shippers who wanted my business, knew exactly what I needed shipped and exactly where it was going, door to door. On top of that, I was looking at saving $200.
I reviewed the deal with my brother, who is an over-the-road truck driver. He was suprised I could get it shipped at such a bargain price and he said to go ahead and get it shipped since he was not going that direction any time soon. So, I accepted the low bid from Bohn Transport. That same day, I was contacted by Liz and she explained that she had a driver coming through and that he would stop and get my bike and bring it to my house. Just 5 days after my initial contact with Bohn, I was re-living Christmas 1974..... except in September.
