My shipper, Dave at SmallHaul was running late. I told him I was leaving for family vacation at 5:30am to catch a plane to Florida. I didn't care what time he made it, he just had to meke it. I got a call (and expected to) around 4:00am. Dave was in the next town over and would be at my house in 15 minutes. All was good.
Then I get a call 5 minutes later....it was Dave. Seems that he just got pulled over by the local boys in blue. As Dave was driving a brand new van he just picked up 2 days before, which had paper license plates, he was hauling a piano in the back and had a 16' trailer with 2 motorcycles on it, he was from waaaay out of town, and it was 4:15am, he apparently made it onto the "suspicious" list.
In about 5 minutes, Dave had 4 of Troy, NY's finest questioning him about what he was doing in Troy, etc, etc. Needless to say, the police also called me at 4:15am and I needed to explain what UShip.com was and how it helped me find the right shipper and the best deal and how there was feedback and how even though I never met Dave, I trusted him relying on his feedback.
Oh, and I also told the cop to let him go because by this time I had 30 minutes before I was about to leave for vacation!
Can I just tell you how my wife was in freak out mode about this?
Anyway, I helped get Dave back on the road after my conversation with Troy NY's finest, and he was on his way to my house.
I am happy to say that Dave made it, secured my ATV on his trailer, gave me a receipt, a handshake and his word that my ATV would arrive on time and in one piece, which it did.
Thanks Dave....this experience made my vacation all that much more relaxing! :-)
